About Us

The Greater Howard County Pearls, Incorporated was incorporated in 2024 under the laws of the State of Maryland as the partner of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Omega Eta Omega Chapter, Greater Howard County, Maryland. The foundation accepts in-kind services and donations, contributions and sponsorships from corporations and other organizations to help promote our goals and serve the needs of the community of Greater Howard County.

Purpose

The Greater Howard County Pearls, Incorporated is organized exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. The purposes include the following: a. To support the educational, charitable, cultural and general welfare of the Greater Howard County, Maryland community, including economically and socially disadvantaged residents. b. To exercise, promote, and protect the privileges and interests of residents of the Greater Howard County, Maryland community; to foster a healthy interest in the civic affairs of the community; to help young people pursue a higher education; to increase the motivation of youth; to provide scholarships, awards and/or sustenance grants; and to sponsor seminars and programs that are actively engaged in promoting training and raising awareness on issues that impact the community.

Annual Meetings

The Foundation Board shall hold an annual meeting of the Corporation in the first quarter of each calendar year for the election of officers, for receiving reports of officers and committees and for the transaction of general business at a place which will be specified at the time. Meetings may be held via face-to-face, video conference calls, or other suitable formats approved by the Board.

Regular and Special Meetings

The Foundation Board shall meet on a quarterly basis or at any time between the annual meetings, called by the President [chair] of the Board, to convene at such place as may be designated, from time to time, by the Board if in the absence of such designation, as may be designated in the call. Special meetings of the members for any purpose or purposes may be held upon the call of a majority of the Board of Directors or the President, or upon written request of a majority of the members. Business transacted at all special meetings of the members shall be confined to the purpose or purposes stated in the notice of the meeting.

Meeting Notice

Notice of Meetings. Notice of the place, day and hour of every annual meeting shall be published in the monthly Newsletter of Omega Eta Omega Chapter consecutively for two months prior to the meeting or by means of a special notice. Notice of the place, day, and hour of regular or special meetings shall be published in the monthly Newsletter of the Omega Eta Omega Chapter or by special notification fourteen (14) days prior to the meeting. No notice need state the business to be transacted at the regular meeting. Any meeting of the Board of Directors, regular or special, may adjourn, from time to time, to reconvene at the same or some other place, and no notice need be given of any such adjourned meeting other than by announcement at the meeting at which adjournment take place.
